Artist Statement
Stories have power. In the past they have shaped our understanding of the world. Even today, stories - in many ways - guide us into new possibilities for our lives. Narratives can take many forms and visual storytelling has become one of the most prominent methods in use today. My work in sequential art has led me to focus on narratives in comics (both print and web based), storyboarding, and animation. In each of these mediums the artist has full control over all aspects of the reality they are creating for their narrative.
Since many of the narratives that interest me deal with human conditions and interactions, I have continued to work with furthering my understanding of the figure. I have continued to explore anatomy, rendering, and iconic representation levels. The application of narrative techniques to new media is an area in which I look to explore in the future.
